Today I drove my car to work:
It was more chaotic than driving to work than walking to work.
Lanes are closed for absolutely no reason. Detours that are around one way streets and now I’m lost when I know exactly how to get there by foot.
People are walking across the street without looking because they are texting their lovers good morning or replying to the work email they should have answered an hour ago.
Cars driving into my lane without looking. Then honk at me because I was in the way.
The security guard asked me if I’m doing alright today twice. I gave him a side eye and wondered if it was because of the bird shit on my car or because someone wrote “wash me” on my car.
9:56 AM
Today while walking:
I saw a woman brushing her hair on the church steps. It was with a crowd of people that seemed to be meeting for something. I wonder what the meeting about because some looked unhoused and others looked down on their luck. There were also women in purple shirts that seemed to be leading the group. I didn’t want to stare too hard so I couldn’t read the shirt. Thank you for your service ladies.
I saw the mute man again but this time he mouthed good morning and then said “I hope you’re having a great day so far.” I was a little shocked but shouldn’t have been. I’ve only seen him once. So I mouthed back yes I am.
I saw the sun and moon again with more birds than yesterday dancing. Is the migration happening? I recently saw the movie The Wild Robot and the birds flying reminded me of that.
I saw a Barney purple Maserati. Must be a cool clown was my thought.
I saw a man pushing his bike instead of riding it. Maybe he was tired. He didn’t have a helmet and had his AirPods in.
I saw 3 women walking like they were having their Sex in the City New York moment. They took up the whole sidewalk so I walked in the street.
10:25 AM
I saw the same security guard that I see every morning. He lets me walk by the sidewalk closed sign. While we exchange good mornings.
Today I saw the First Baptist Church fountain turn on for the first time since the fire.
